Welcome to the Gen Z Agenda!

My name is Eliana DaCunha and I'm the co-founder of the Gen Z Agenda. I graduated Providence College in 2022 with a B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Global Health, and I'm applying to medical school this spring.
As a college sophomore, I decided to explore classes outside of my Biology major and take a Global Studies course. While I've always kept up with the news and supported causes that are important to me, it was this class that made me realize I want to know more and do more about local, national, and global issues. As a pre-med student hoping to learn more about how these issues impact people's health, I eventually created a global health major at my college. My classes inspired me to work at the intersections of fields like medicine, policy, and advocacy in an effort to improve health outcomes for people everywhere. I began volunteering in my own community, caring for people at my local free clinic and advocating for bylaws in my hometown that would protect both human and environmental health. Fortunately, I had wonderful mentors who were able to advise and empower me as I did this work. It was their guidance that inspired my idea for the Gen Z Agenda. I, like many young people, had felt a passionate desire to make a difference, but often felt lost with how to start. The Gen Z Agenda organization and Fellowship program are designed to not only empower and educate young people to make positive change, but also connect them with mentors who can help guide their work. Through the site, I hope to help people—not just Gen Z—find ways they can contribute to a healthier, more equitable, sustainable, and beautiful world. I want to empower young people to be better global citizens and activists, and give them the resources to do so. I know together, we can tackle all the problems on our agenda. |

Throughout the past four years of high school, I came across various problems within my school community. For example, I saw the lack of mentorship and opportunities available for young girls passionate about STEM, the urgent need for greater diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and the ignorance amongst my peers towards climate change and environmental issues.
As a leader within my community, I knew I had to stand up and make a difference. I took it upon myself to get involved and volunteer with several organizations whose missions aligned with my passions for social and environmental justice. I also created various clubs within my school district, bringing together a community of members that advocate for change and lift each other as they climb.
As I head off into the next chapter of my journey at Harvard University, my goal is to take all that I've learned from my leadership and advocacy experiences, and mentor other young change-makers of our generation to continue the fight for causes they are passionate about.
